We’re pleased to share that the Project Nexus zoning application has successfully passed First Reading at City Council and is now moving into the next phase of the municipal approval process.
This is an important milestone—but it is not the end of the conversation. The next step is Public Hearings, followed by Second and (hopefully) Third Reading. Community input plays a critical role in this stage, and we genuinely want to hear from you.
For the Community, By the Community
Project Nexus has always been grounded in a simple belief: lasting solutions to homelessness must be built with the community, not around it.
As we move into the public hearing phase, we are inviting residents, businesses, partners, and neighbours to share their perspectives—questions, concerns, and ideas alike. These conversations help us identify challenges early, strengthen the project, and ensure the solutions we advance truly reflect community values while supporting those most in need.
This is not about rushing decisions. It’s about working together to get them right.
Join Us at an Open House
To support open dialogue and informed discussion, we are hosting two community Open Houses:
Each session will include a short overview of Project Nexus, followed by opportunities to engage directly with the people and partners involved in advancing the initiative.
Full details, including times and location, are available on the Project Nexus webpage.
New Resources Now Available Online
To make it easier to stay informed, we’ve added three new sections to the Project Nexus webpage:
- Open House Dates & Details – Everything you need to plan your visit
- Virtual Tour of the Project Nexus Site – Explore the space and understand how it works
- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) – Clear answers to common questions we’ve been hearing
We encourage you to take a few minutes to explore these resources before attending an Open House or submitting feedback.

Thank You for Being Part of the Conversation
Thank you for your interest, your engagement, and your willingness to be part of a community-led conversation about how we respond to homelessness in Red Deer.
Project Nexus is focused not only on addressing immediate needs, but on lighting the pathway home and helping people move from crisis to stability and into permanent housing, with dignity and support.
We look forward to continuing this conversation with you and building the next steps together.
